July Chapter Meeting: Telecommuting & Coworking Spaces

We invite you to the next TCSHRM Chapter Meeting at COCO in NE Mpls. We have applied for 1 SHRM and 1 HRCI credit for attending this event with the topics centered around the future of telecommuting, coworking spaces, and different workplace issues.  We also look forward to networking on the rooftop patio! Complimentary appetizers and drinks will be provided for attendees. We hope you can join us for a fun evening of networking and learning!

 

Is Now the Time for Telework & Flextime at Your Organization? 
With the improvement in the economy, the needs of the future generation of our workforce, and the low unemployment in the Twin Cities, skilled talent is getting harder to find and so is the office space to put them for many organizations. We all know that Telework and Workplace Flexibility have been around for many years, but have you reviewed your organization’s programs lately?
To truly leverage the power of flexibility & telework, a strategic approach to building a flexible work culture may be needed. In this session, participants will learn how they can implemented successful workplace flexibility initiatives. Examples, best practices, and new resources that are available from eWorkPlace. This state-sponsored program was first introduced in 2009, and in just two years it helped many Twin Cities’ metro-area employers and thousands of employees learn about, introduce, and perfect Workplace Flexibility & Telework. 


When Telecommuting becomes Teledepressing
It's no surprise that 80% to 90% of workers say they would like to telework at least part time. But the home office isn't everything it's cracked up to be. Distractions abound, including laundry, pets and children. But the real buzzkill is isolation from fellow workers, management and learning opportunities. Telecommuters are increasingly embracing coworking spaces as a healthy and stimulating alternative to the home.

 

 

 

  

Kathy Kacher, Career/Life Alliance Services, Inc.

Kathy Kacher is founder and President of Career/Life Alliance Services, Inc., and has worked for over thirty years consulting on workforce transformation. Kathy is a faculty member at World at Work, facilitates the Twin Cities Work-Life Think Tank, and is a partner in the eWorkPlace-MN initiative to help organizations promote telework in an effort to reduce traffic and improve air quality. Most recently Kathy has joined a new team and co-founded The SMART Workplace, a collaboration of practice leaders that teaches organizations, teams and individuals how be agile in a distributed, mobile and flexible workplace. 

 

 

Don Ball, COCO

Don Ball is co-founder of COCO, a coworking company with 5 locations in the Twin Cities and Chicago. COCO was founded in 2010 at the beginning of the coworking movement. Today, COCO plays host to over 1100 members, including telecommuters, solopreneurs, small businesses and corporate work groups.

Street parking is complimentary and easy to find. Please do not park in the surface lot.


Event Credit:
