Internship Information for Students

Human resource students are encouraged to get as much HR experience as possible while they are in a formalized college program.  TCHRA is committed to helping students enter into the HR profession.  The following are answers to common questions students have about the internship process.

How do I find an internship?
You can check the TCHRA internship postings on a regular basis.  You can also network and seek out internships on your own.  When applying for an internship you should treat it as a regular interview, not something casual.

How do I choose an organization?
Choose an organization that will help you grow in your HR skills.  For instance if you want to specialize in benefits administration be sure to intern within a benefits department.

Can I do more than one internship?
Absolutely, the more experience, the better.

Do I have to take an internship for credit?
Some colleges require an internship for graduation, some offer it as an elective, and others don’t have internship credits.  You can participate in an internship regardless of the college requirements.  Be sure to check with your college advisor to ensure compliance with the program you are registered with.
